Good and Evil Essay There are many different viewpoints on what is right and wrong and ethically and morally correct. Immanuel Kant (1724-1804) and Jon Stuart Mill (1806-1873), both considered to be two of the best philosophers of all time, had different views on how one should live the Good Life. John Stuart Mill’s theory was called Utilitarianism and Kant’s theory, the Categorical Imperative. Immanuel Kant believed that it was more important for a person to have moral values than to be intelligent, funny, or to have any other talents or traits of the human mind or body. He believed of course that it was good to have these talents but that â€Å"moral worth† was invaluable. Kant expressed, â€Å"to act morally is to act from no other motive than the motive of doing what is right† (Sommers Sommers, 2010, p. 230). Kant believed that morality was not just about the results or effect of an action but the will behind the action. He believed that our actions must come from a sense of Duty, not because we care for or love one another but because it is our Duty to â€Å"respect the Moral Law† (p. 246). Judging the importance of a decision based on whether or not it was following a rule or set of rules is called deontological ethics. He believed that it was not the consequences of the action which were important but the person’s motive carrying out the said action. Many disagree with Kant saying that we must have a foundation to start from, a reason such as love or concern to do what is morally correct. John Stuart Mill believed that our actions must promote happiness to all involved, not just the person doing the action for it to be morally correct. Mill endorsed the â€Å"principle of utility† thus that actions are correct if they produce happiness and wrong if resulting in the opposite of happiness. Mill’s version of the Golden Rule is â€Å"To do as you would be done by, and to love your neighbor as yourself† (p. 211). Mill defended Utilitarianism saying that the result and consequences of the action, to produce happiness that is, would make the said action correct. This is called the Greatest Happiness Principle. Utilitarianism is not based on the happiness or satisfaction of one individual but of the whole mass or group of people involved, â€Å"the welfare of all citizens† (Rachels Rachels, 2012, p. 101). Casablanca In the movie Casablanca, the main character, Rick Blaine believed in living the Good Life just like John Stuart Mill. He also was concerned with the consequences of action. Rick also seemed to be like Kant in that he had a strong sense of duty professionally. Rick had a duty to himself, which he made clear on many occasions, but also had a duty to his acquaintances and patrons of his cabaret’. Rick made decisions to promote happiness, like Mill, but his decisions were based on selfish reasons. If others were happy he would make more money. Rick could have been considered a Utilitarian because he made decisions many times to put the happiness of the group ahead of the happiness of one individual, hence the second proposition of Classical Utilitarianism; â€Å"An action’s consequences matter only insofar as they involve the greater or lesser happiness of individual’s† (Rachels Rachels, p. 110, para. 1). In the beginning, Rick made the decision to let the police take Ugarte into custody so as not to disrupt the rest of the patrons. He also did it to make himself happy so that he would not have any problems with the authorities, so his establishment would run smoother, and also so he would be able to have the exit visas that Ugarte had given him to hold onto. In the beginning Rick was only concerned with his own happiness and he states this early on when he said, â€Å"I stick my neck out for nobody. † But, as the story progresses it seems that Rick started to make decisions to benefit others, not just him. When a young woman approached him and told him her story of wanting to get to America he rigged the game to benefit her and her husband so that they would have the money to buy their passes. This would benefit both the man and woman, make him appear good, benefit his acquaintance who sold the visas, and in-turn would probably come back to benefit him again. As stated earlier, Kant believed that one should have a moral obligation to do what is right and that it comes from a person’s pure sense of duty not from any emotion. Kant strictly â€Å"denied that emotions could have any foundation for morality† at all and that we should actually â€Å"discipline our feelings by reason† (Betzler, 2008, p. 308). Kant actually believed that it is an obligation and it is required to do what is morally right. This is how Rick appeared to be throughout until he came into contact with his old love, Ilsa. Ilsa seemed to bring out the best in him. When he realized how much he really cared for Ilsa and loved her, he only wanted to see her happy even if it was not with him. In the end he made a decision for the greater good of all involved instead of just himself. He helped Ilsa and her husband leave Casablanca even though he knew he would get into trouble. Rick showed his real sense of moral value when he did this. Another character that also showed his morality was Captain Renault. He helped Rick many times and recognized his good intentions towards others at the end of the movie. It appeared as if Captain Renault was impressed by Rick putting Ilsa and Victor Laszlo first even though it meant he would not have her anymore. Captain Renault covered for Rick in the end so that Rick would not be arrested. Captain Renault also showed that he was looking out for the benefit of the group not just one person when he did this. So, who is to say what makes an action right or wrong? Does the action have to be backed by a sense of duty or should it be driven by love and compassion for others? Is it not only the consequence of the action that matters? If good comes from the action and the action comes from the heart, thus is it not good? Kant believed that â€Å"love and compassion should not be allowed to cooperate in the performance of Duty† (p. 247). Development And Implementation Of Special Economic Zones Economics Essay A Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is a geographical region that has different economic and other laws and is more free market oriented in comparison to a countries established laws. India first passed the Special Economic Zone Act in the year 2005.This paper discusses the advantages and disadvantages of a Special Economic Zone and how it benefits Foreign Direct Investors and the scope of Project Development in India in a Special Economic Zone. There are various factors affecting the project development of a Special Economic Zone in India which will be discussed in depth. The main focus of the research is to develop a project development for a business in a Special Economic Zone in India. Statement of Research Question: According to me the statement of Research Question will be the Analysis of the facts from the past and from the present scenario in the Special Economic Zone developments and ascertain the future of the development of Special Economic Zones in the hosting country. Also, I will concentrate on presenting a real life example on understanding about developing and implementing in the Special Economic Zone. Theoretical Rationale: India is right now a fast growing economy and the Special Economic Zone play a major role in flourishing it. Special Economic Zones has led to increase in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) by foreign investors in the form of International Business or Multinational Corporation (MNC). The Government of India has been active in the development of the Special Economic Zone by formulating polices, reviewing them regularly and have safeguarded that ample facilities are provided to the developers of Special Economic Zones and also to the companies setting up themselves in the Special Economic Zones in India. Special Economic Zones in India are created by the Government of India. The Special Economic Zones in India are run by Government-Private or solely Private ownership. They provide special provisions to develop the industrial growth in that area. The first Special Economic Zone was launched in 1965 in Kandla, Gujarat. There are various incentives and facilities provided to the units in the Special Economic Zones including Foreign Investment, Duty free import, Domestic procurement of goods for development, exemption of various taxes, exemption from customs/excise duties, operation and maintenance of the Special Economic Zones. Since the Special Economic Zones provide a lot of add-ons for investors it acts as a very eye catching zone to develop a business but, there are a lot of challenges that are to be faced by them. Also, the Special Economic Zone attracts the Foreign Investors due to the exemption of customs or excise duties, taxes and the like creates some added challenges that are to be faced by the Foreign Investors. The Foreign Investors face cultural, political and legal challenges in a different land. Developing the Special Economic Zone also benefits the country. It creates employment for a huge population improving the employment rate in the country and thereby, reducing poverty. The Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) that comes into the country generates flow of money in the country. John dunning provided a framework approach namely Ownership, location and internationalization (OLI Framework). Marco Neuhaus (2006) states that the framework points out some advantages of ownership one enterprise may come across by doing business overseas. The location suitability for the firm is also evaluated using this framework. This might help the decision of an enterprise to venture overseas for the business or not. Thirdly, the concept of internationalization is addressed by the OLI frame work which can help an enterprise in setting up an operations plan. Using the OLI framework, a multinational enterprise (MNE) would be able to assess the feasibility of setting up the business. I would like to formulate a Project Development of a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in India. I would like to analyze the various challenges that are faced by a business that want to enter the Special Economic Zone. The Implementation Of The Research Project For Organisation: The organization that I would like to study in relation to my topic of research is Ireo. I would base my research on the Special Economic Zones in the context of developing a Special Economic Zone in India. Ireo in JV partnership with Panchshil Realtors (pune) has developed Indias first IT Special Economic Zone (SEZ), EON Free Zone at Kharadi, Pune, India. Ireo is the first Private Equity Fund dedicated to the Indian real estate sector with a fund size of US $2 billion with the backing of global blue chip investors and financial institutions. They have emerged as a major pan-India developer equipped with financial strength to fully leverage available opportunities in this sector. Since establishing their presence in 2004, they have evolved into a fully integrated real estate organization that is both the financer and developer of its projects. The company has a pan-India footprint of projects in prime locations across NCR (including Gurgaon), Haryana, Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra under various stages of developments and implementation. Combining the best of Indian and international resources, their team consists of accomplished Indian and expatriate professionals from diverse backgrounds to lead initiatives and to deliver best in class products and services to their customers. Preliminary Literature Review: The literature review was compiled using library search and electronic resources. Since the Special Economic Zone concept is relatively new in India, There are considerably less number of journals and e-books in this field. A few of those resources and publications were reviewed for this preliminary literature review. Special economic zone Act is a program introduced by the state for the development of the country. It has been initiated by the Indian government to create a free market economy and free trade among nations, abolition of national boundaries and dismantling the nation state system giving priority to Market over the state. (Partha Mukhopadhyay; Jan 2008) Special economic zone is a geographic region that has economic laws more progressive than that of the countries typical economic laws. These zones are known by different names in different parts of the world like free trade zone(FTS), bonded free zones(BFZ) , industrial free zone (IFZ) and Export processing zone.( Jona Aravind Dohrmann;January 2006) Export processing zones is an ancestor of special economic zone. The main purpose is to attract industries which are export oriented by offering them favourable investment and trade condition as compared to the rest of the country. The UN industrial development organization (UNID) identifies five attributes of export processing zone they are 1) Dominated by market mechanism. 2) Restricted to a limited region. 3) Specialize in production of export goods and offer special encouragement for such productions. 4) The primary goal is employment generation, foreign investments and foreign exchange. 5) The Secondary goal is technology transfer, developmental linkages and regional development. The Free trade zone policy in 2000 was re launched by the Bharathiya janatha party (BJP). The name was changed from export processing zone to special economic zone. The policies purpose was to make SEZ an engine for economic growth supported by quality infrastructure complimented by an attractive fiscal package both at the central and state level with minimum possible regulations.( Jermy Grasset and Frederic Lady;January 2007) The features of SEZ scheme are No license required for import. Manufacturing or service activities allowed. SEZ units to be positive net foreign exchange earner within 3 years. Domestic sales subject to full custom duty and import policy in force. Full freedom for sub-contracting. No routine examination by custom authorities of export or import cargo. The UPA government enacted the special economic zone act 2005 which was passed in june 2005 and came into force on 10th feb 2006 with the notification of the SEZ rule in 2006. Three categories of SEZ Multi product SEZ Sector specific SEZ Free trade and warehousing zone The first category signifies the manufacturing of services of two or more goods in a sector or goods or services falling in two or more sectors. Contiguous area of 100 hectares or more is required. The second sector is meant exclusively for one or more products or services. This includes biotechnology, gems and jewellery, non conventional energy, hardware and software and electronics. Minimum area requirement of 100 hectares of contiguous and vacant land is required. The third sector the minimum area requirement is 40 hectares of contiguous or vacant land and the built up area should not be less than 10 hectares. 154 SEZ were notified under SEZ act 2005. IT sector has the maximum number. Many issues have been brought up in relation to SEZ in India the main being Locating land. Relaxation of labor laws Usage of water Farmers are protesting against for acquisition of land this leads to destructions of employment of peasants whose land is acquired and provide very little employment opportunity to highly skilled and educated individuals and the totally net employment generated may well be negative. In many cases valuable land has been given away at concessional prices. To conclude the implications of SEZ may cause increasing socio political crisis due to the complexity of the society. In order to avoid polarization of the society, civil society should engage to create a consensus on developmental issues. Hypothesis to be tested: Feasibility of special economic zones after 10-15 years. Availability of land in the future. Data Sources and the Justification for the Choice: Choice of data sources forms the most integral part of any good research. I would use the Peer reviewed Journal articles, articles from Business magazines, Newspapers, reports. Journals like Journal of Business Research, Journal of International Business Studies, Indian Journal of Economics and Business. Magazines such as Business World, Business Today, The Business Magazine, Forbes, Business Week etc. and newspapers like the Financial Times, The Economic Times, The Economists etc. Peer reviewed Journals, Magazines and newspaper form the most trusted source of information and is also available on the internet. Books are the first choice for trusted information. Use of the Aston library and e-library is the place to get these sources of information. Research Design: A Research Design is the plan for a study, guiding data collection and analysis. A Research Design helps the study to locate the problem and to follow economical procedures. The Research Design for my study will be as follows: Define Terms Background information of the topic of research Locate the problem Create priorities I will follow 2 main types of Research and they are Secondary Research and Qualitative Research techniques. The data that is already written or published by someone else for their purpose of study is classified as Secondary Research. Qualitative Research Techniques consists of Interviews, Focus Groups, and Questionnaire etc. Methodology to be employed: In doing this research I will use Primary Data and Secondary Data. As said earlier, Primary data will involve qualitative techniques such as Interviews, Focus groups, Questionnaire etc. For primary data collection I will choose a real life example of a firm entered the Special Economic Zone, as mentioned earlier Ireo. I will do research on how did the organization setup a Special Economic Zone. Since, the organization is a foreign company entering the Indian market I can gain first-hand information from the firm regarding the challenges they faced while setting up a business in a different country. For this purpose I will Interview certain employees of the firm get information on the research survey conducted by them during the setting up phase.   As far as the secondary data collection is concerned I will use Academic books, journal articles, Magazines articles and Newspapers. After putting through the data collected from both the sources i.e. secondary and primary I can get a clear picture of the past and the current scenario of the development of Special Economic Zones. Then I can answer questions of Hypothesis to be tested. LASIK Surgery :: LASIK Surgery Essays

Seeing well without contact lenses and glasses is the dream of millions of Americans and modern medical science has enabled that dream to come true (Caster, 8). Since first grade, Dede Head, a 30-year-old fitness trainer in North Carolina, has worn glasses to correct sever nearsightedness and astigmatism. Over the years she became accustomed to wearing glasses and contacts, but this has limited many important aspects of her life, including sports. She then heard of a laser eye surgery that â€Å"supposedly†, helped to correct a person’s vision by means of lasers. She immediately signed up for the procedure and ever since that day, she has not worn glasses or contacts. Dede is just one of the eight hundred-fifty-thousand people who have undergone a procedure by the name of LASIK or Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis. If surgical procedures were movies, LASIK would be this years box office smash as it has received much media coverage and many praises; however, not that many peo ple know what LASIK is, what the advantages and disadvantages are, and most importantly if LASIK is right for them (Buratto, 1). LASIK is basically a type of laser surgery which can help correct nearsightedness (myopia), which is the inability to see distant objects, farsightnedness (hyperopia), which is the inability to see close, and astigmatism, the inability to focus light waves evenly. LASIK has grown greatly in the last year, mostly because of 4 reasons; it is fast (procedure takes about 5-10 minutes), safe, painless, and the results are almost always prolific. The eye is just like a camera because it works by focusing light waves that pass through it. Light rays that enter the eye must first pass through the most outer layer of the eye called the cornea. The cornea performs 2/3 of the focusing process, the remainder of is then completed by the crystalline lens which further focuses the light on the retina. This requires extreme precision in that the focused light must fall ex actly at the level of the retina (Gallo, 126). The retina is a nerve tissue that carpets the inner surface of the eye, much like wallpaper covers all aspects of a wall. The retina converts the light into electrical signals, which are transmitted to the brain by the optic nerve. Just as a camera cannot produce clear photographs of the image if the incoming light is not focused on the film, we cannot produce a clear vision if the cornea and crystalline lens do not focus the light precisely on the retina.

Symbolism in Lord of the Flies :: Essays Papers

Symbolism in Lord of the Flies In William Golding's Lord of the Flies, a novel that explores the depths of human nature, plot is irrelevant in comparison to the rich symbolism embedded in nearly all components of the story. The theme of the book is the destructive presence of evil as an influence to mankind, which lies within the breakdown of all order and common sense as a group of british boys stranded on a deserted island evolve into a pack of animalistic savages. The clues to this hidden theme behind the storyline are plentiful, as Golding uses a number of objects to represent certain ideologies and moral values. The first term used in the book that holds much symbolic value throughout the story is the usage of the word "scar" for the stretch of sandy beach that borders the thick jungle on the island. When the plane crashes on the lush island, it disrupts the balance and harmony of nature untouched by man's influence. The twisted wreckage of the plane creates an imperfection in the peacefulness of nature, and leaves the beach a "scar" of what it used to be - beautiful and unharmed by man's destructive impulse. Golding describes the natural surroundings of the island in lush, descriptive detail all throughout the book, beginning with an account of Ralph's proximity : "The shore was fledged with palm trees. These stood or leaned or reclined against the light and their green feathers were a hundred feet up in the air. The ground beneath them was a bank covered with grass, torn everywhere by the upheavals of fallen trees, scattered with decaying coconuts and palm saplings. Behind this was the darkness of the forest proper and the open space of the scar." (9-10) An object which also attains much symoblic relevance as the story unfolds is the conch shell. Delicate, fragile, and white, the conch is what brings the boys together on the first day at the beach. It is used throughout the story as an object of high importance and tradition, as it calls meetings together and determines who has the right to speak, depending on who is holding it at the time. It can be seen as a representation of law and order amongst the boys, as it unites them and prevents chaos from arising.

Adverb – is a word used to add something to the meaning of a verb, an adjective, or another adverb, like: Jack solved the sum quickly. This flower is very beautiful. 6. Prepositions – connects nouns and pronouns too the rest of the sentence, like: A little girl sat under a tree. They are playing in the garden. Others: at, by, for, from, in, of, on, to and with etc. 7. Conjunctions – are different kinds of connectors. They hook together individual words, like: Jack and jerry are cousins. Coke Wars Case Analysis: Competition, Strategy, and Implications Webster University Summer 2012 INTRODUCTION The rivalry between Coca-Cola & Pepsi can be deemed as legendary, â€Å"the top soft drink competitors in the world spend millions of dollars yearly to try and convince you that their version of soft drink is better† (Dotson pg 1).Over the past century, it seems they have feuded over everything from who has superior taste, to the pursuit into space, and more recently over NASCAR and the social media race. Regardless of who is ahead in the competition, the battles between Coca-Cola & Pepsi demonstrate important strategic adaptations that the corporations must execute so as to thrive in the constantly changing realms of customer satisfaction, business environments and technology.This paper will: 1) review the strategic issues presented in the â€Å"Coke Wars† case through the use of the Strategic Management Model as applied to both Coca-Cola & Pepsi; 2) highlight fundamental strategies & tactics so as to analyze the inherent competition between both corporations; and finally 3) discuss implications of concepts presented in the case for the middle manager so as to grasp lessons learned for future application.STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT MODEL (SMM) The text describes strategic management as â€Å"the set of decisions and actions that result in the formulation and implementation of plans designed to achieve a company’s objectives† (Pearce, Robinson pg 3). With this definition in mind then, the Strategic Management Model can be considered as a very useful framework by which managers plan and implement business strategies.More importantly, in today’s global business environment â€Å"firms need perfect processes that respond to increases in the size and number of competing firms; to the expanded role of government as a buyer, seller, regulator, and competitor in the free-enterprise system; and to greater business involvement in int ernational trade† (pg 3). Furthermore, while â€Å"businesses vary in the processes they use to formulate and direct their strategic management activities†¦the basic components of the models used to analyze strategic management operations is similar† (pg 9).In reaction to internal and external environmental business/economic pressures Coca-Cola & Pepsi have manipulated the SMM in various ways so as to remain viable/powerful competitors in their respective industry. Coca-Cola Model Application According to the Coca-Cola Company’s Annual Report 2011, they are â€Å"the world’s largest beverage company†¦with more than 500 nonalcoholic beverage brands†¦own the world’s top five nonalcoholic sparkling beverage brands†¦products bearing their trademarks, have been sold in the United States since 1886, and are now sold in more than 200 countries† (pg 1).Coca-Cola’s report to shareholders reveals that they are continuing to r emain competitive in the beverage/snack industry due to a multitude of intelligent strategic decisions. When analyzing Coca-Cola from the Strategic Management Model perspective one can determine that while the internal/external environment will always remain unpredictable, the development of viable plans/processes can assist a corporation in remaining flexible and responsive to necessary change. Coca-Cola’s Mission is â€Å"to refresh the world†¦inspire moments of optimism and happiness†¦create value and make a difference† (Annual Report Mission, Vision, and Values).Their current goals are â€Å"to use company assets—brands, financial strength, unrivaled distribution system, global reach and the talent and strong commitment of management and associates—to become more competitive and to accelerate growth in a manner that creates value for shareholders† (pg 1). Overall, the mission statement is quite powerful and accurately â€Å"describes the company’s product, market, and technological areas of emphasis in a way that reflects the values and priorities of the strategic decision makers† (Pearce, Robinson pg 10).With respect to Internal Analysis, the corporation has identified its â€Å"operating structure as the basis for financial reporting† and is broken down into 7 different operating groups (Annual Report pg 2). The method for financial reporting is important because this is where/how investors and executives alike assess the â€Å"quantity and quality of the company’s financial, human, and physical resources†¦and contrasts company’s past successes and traditional concerns with the company’s current capabilities† (Pearce Robinson pg 11).Coca-Cola’s Annual Report is well designed, informative, and relatively easy to read as well. An important internal analysis factor of note is that of leadership—CEO’s and Board members alike must adequately analyze the direction/vision of the corporation so as to not become â€Å"fixated upon past glories†¦instead embracing new opportunities† (Ward pg 3). The External Environment that the company experiences is one full of pressures to include: extreme competition, distribution system management challenges, and social responsibility struggles.Additional competitive factors include those of â€Å"but not limited to pricing, advertising, sales promotion programs, product innovation, increased efficiency in production techniques, the introduction of new packaging, new vending and dispensing equipment, and brand/trademark development & protection† (Annual Report pg 8). (CNN) Interestingly, the party those specific young adults follow created the politicization of Marjory Stoneman Douglas event and the march itself. The teens have been constant victims of manipulation of video: Emma Gonzalez was accused of ripping the Constitution and the video looked believable to anyone who wanted to dislike her. In reality, she was tearing apart a target made out of paper. David Hogg has been accused of being a crisis actor, someone who acts as a real victim during a tragedy, but only to prove himself as a Stoneman Douglas Eagle and not a crisis actor from California. All of the teens behind the movement are ostracized on social media fo r their age, gender or both. With these fallacies being spread, many Conservatives believed them. These lies comprised of hate are what the media speaks on. Yes, the march was covered heavily. So was the Right Wing wave of false truths about teenagers and their movement. The immature adults who politicized the march were the ones who created the supposed Liberal agenda that the young activists were pawns of. During the teens first event after the march called Road to Change, a country wide road tour where the leaders of March Four Our Lives visited different states and helped register people young and old to vote in the midterms. While in Texas, a place where public carrying of a gun is legal, the young adults registered people of all ages eighteen and older. As a group of protesters arrived, they knew that a conversation was going to be needed. Matt Deitsch explained that David Hogg, a member of MFOL and the topic of slander for this specific conservative man, was able to explain that he wasnt anti-gun, his family waslaw enforcement agents, gun owners and registered Republicans, and added that he didnt want to take away the mans guns (aplus). This was not covered by many media outlets that can be easily and quickly accessed. Any positive conversation held between opposing viewpoints, in this case Liberal and Conservative, is not entertaining nor captivating so news channels like Fox wil l not air those stories. Instead of airing the truthful, encouraging and kind stories about March For Our Lives or the brains behind it, they give airtime to people like Tomi Lahren. Lahren is a right wing Conservative who commentates on current political news. Unfortunately for the kids who speak up about the need for new gun laws, Tomi Lahrens voice echos over theirs. But unfortunately for Tomi, she unknowingly proved that when some Conservatives dont have an argument against stricter or newer gun laws and restrictions they start accusing the Left of unrelated things in order to call their hate as fact. In a Right Wing Watch News segment, Lahren said They arent interested in a few more laws! Theyre interested in eliminating the Second Amendment all together. Thats the real goal and even that would solve nothing (youtube.com). Previously stated, David Hogg expressed that their plans were not to take away the second amendment nor guns. The media, specifically Fox News, needs viewers. People are not going to watch two opponents sharing values and shaking hands. They want to watch someone or even multiple people arguing their side and using hand gestures, a loud voice and a tone that makes one sound professional. A simple Google search would prove all of Tomi Lahrens claims to be incorrect and blatant lies. All she expressed on camera was her partys fears. The right wing Conservatives do not want their guns to be taken out of their possession and they want the Second Amendment to stay in place because thats their whole argument. The fallacies and false knowledge spoken by a woman dressed in an American flag hoodie were the ones in the Liberal agenda that the children of Marjory Stoneman Douglas were accused of spreading. The irony is that the March For Our Lives founders never once said they wanted to deprive people of the right to protect themselves nor did they say that they planned on removing the Second Amendment. Because Fox News gives Tomi Lahren an outlet larger than the Eagles, she is able to reach a wider demographic. Shes on a network that anyone with a television can watch. The March For Our Lives founders have had some interviews, but not like Tomi or people like her. They have social media which helps them reach out to a younger demographic, but arent always the ones who ha ve the legal ability to cast a vote. The media failed the youth as it puts the children of Stoneman Douglas in a bad light and gave leeway to a spiteful, hateful and simply incorrect woman to spread her message of grievance about the same kids the media ignored. The agenda the young adults are accused of spreading was created by the media and for the media, not by the victims of it. The event that occured on February 14, 2018 left an entire school divided. You were either a survivor or a victim. Seventeen innocent lives were uprooted from their homes and moved to graveyards. Those are the victims. The survivors were left with hurt, anger and trauma. What did they do with their emotions? They fought back against the cause of their schoolmates untimely death. Like Alex Jones did to the Newtown victims, many accused the Parkland shooting to be fake or a publicity stunt. This fueled the teens more because they had already lost their friends, they were not going to lose against bigotry. They were also said to be uneducated on what they believed because of their ages. Radio host Kevin McCullough stated Even though they have a little more than a junior high level of educationthe Leftist mediacontinue to use them to advance their socialist utopia ideas (usatoday.com). The young adults have proven themselves more mature and educated on the topic of gun and gun violence t han some politicians by being willing to have an open dialogue with them. Those same politicians literally closed their doors in their faces when they tried to speak with them. That was not a push from any Leftist group except their own. The founders of March For Our Lives were smart enough to take their anger and use it for a progressive movement, they are definitely smart enough to ignore people like McCullough or Lahren who simply are not aware of what is truly happening. A large reason the right wing has such a passionate belief about guns, whether or not they have the truth about them is out of question because clearly the facts have been misconstrued, is because of the NRA. The NRA stands for National Rifle Association. The NRA endorses politicians and gives them money to their campaign based on their stance on the Second Amendment. The money the NRA can put into an election could sway it in a different direction. during the 2016 election, the NRA and its affiliates spent a record of $54m to secure Republican control of the White House and Congress, including $30.3m to help elect Donald Trump (theguardian). Politicians, primarily Republicans, are commonly endorsed by the NRA. Those same politicians, along with the NRA as a whole, are the ones offering thoughts and prayers instead of action. That very sentence is what inspired the teens of Parkland to start March For Our Lives in the first place. They were sick of the cycle that the NRA has encourag ed for years: a mass shooting, thoughts and prayers, forgetting it ever happened, another mass shooting. The politicians who take the blood money happily are afraid of the NRA. They do not want to lose the trust of the powerful group of people, the promotion from the people nor do they want to lose their money. Without their money they have no campaign. During a CNN town hall, Marco Rubio, an acceptor of the NRAs donation to his campaign and Floridas Senator, was faced by Cameron Kasky who at the time was a junior in high school. This is about people who are for making a difference and people who are against it and prefer money. So, Senator Rubio, can you tell me right now that you will not accept a single donation from the NRA in the future? (CNN). As Rubio stammers his way through the question and tries his best to give as little of an answer as possible, he finally says people buy into my agenda ¦ (CNN). Marco Rubio confirmed he was afraid of the NRA by wording his answer to Cameron so it would leave the NRA out completely. With such a hold on the Republican party, the National Rifle Association adds fuel to the gun control fire by giving money to the people who are not morally just and are controlled by checks from the bank. Though they may not realize it, but the NRA and the politicians that take their money are against schoo l kids and their safety. If they are not willing to change unsafe laws, they are against childrens lives. Those same people are criticizing the left for supposedly using kids for their agenda, but why should they care? They seem to think that a piece of metal is more valuable than one of those propagandic childrens lives anyways. From February 14, 2018 until the current day, the Parkland teens have been under the microscope. Theyve been called bullies for ignoring or picking on the shooter before the massacre. Theyve been called liars by people who disagree with them. Theyve been accused of faking this whole shooting for sympathy and to boost the lefts chance of winning back the government. They have been personally attacked by adults about things going on in their personal lives. Theyve dealt with all of these things on top of the trauma of grief of losing schoolmates, friends and teachers. While being teenagers, the courageous youth of Florida has dealt with a tragedy no one should ever have to go through. The Liberal agenda the activists have been accused of spreading did not exist to the extent it has been portrayed to be before the kids rose up. Adults who have a different opinion and a weaker argument created this idea of a Liberal agenda that differs from everything March For Our Lives stands for. The blatant lies about their goals include but are not limited to: March For Our Lives taking guns away from all Americans, March For Our Lives banning all guns and March For Our Lives removing the Second Amendment. Instead of being afraid of children who some Republicans call uneducated, maybe politicians should open up their doors and their minds to new ideas and new voices. Generation Z is the generation of mass shootings. They have grown up practicing active shooter drills, but no one with any say in Congress will get anything done except put blame on others. The leaders of March For Our Lives are not Liberal pawns. They are setting an example for other young adults to speak up about things that matter. They are getting kids excited to vote. Our Declaration, By Danielle Allen - 1540 Words

In Danielle Allen’s essay, Our Declaration, she argues that all people should understand and recognize that the Declaration gives all people in the United States the undeniable freedom to self-govern. One person has the power to change the government; although this is not specifically stated, the freedom to self-govern implies every voice matters. She guides the reader to this idea by using simple and easy to follow examples to show the reader that they have the power to invoke a change the government. Allen also uses credible sources in order to give her reasoning credibility as well as using arguments that elicit an emotional connection. Nevertheless, if several of these true propositions are strung together, it can lead to a more refined but true conclusion. This method is called syllogism. Allen uses two different techniques in order to support her argument that self-evidence is the same as a syllogism. Aristotle was the one to originally come up with the idea of â€Å"stringing together valid premises to yield a self-evident conclusion† or a syllogism. She introduces that he came up with this method of a syllogism because he gives Allen’s argument credibility due to the fact that Aristotle is a well-known Greek philosopher. Allen then goes on to show how coming to a conclusion can be similar to following a procedure using the Bill Gates is moral example. Unlike with the catholic church evoking feelings of undeniable truths, a syllogism uses common sense and rationale. Religion is a tricky thing, especially in today’s society, but not many people can deny basic logic and reasoning. She uses a very simple example to demonstrate the denotation of a syllogism. â€Å"First Premise: Bill Gates is a human being. Second Premise: All human beings are moral.
